Happy Birthday (I think…)

Last week I celebrated another birthday and with it came a whole slew of reflections and observations. As a father of two teenage boys, in reaching this semiprime milestone, I’ve discovered that…

1) I am a master of dad jokes. It's like my superpower. I can turn any situation into a pun, and my boys are just thrilled about it. Well, maybe not thrilled, but they're definitely groaning!

2) I'm not old, I'm just 'vintage.' I mean, I've got a few dings and scratches, and my parts might not be as shiny as they used to be, but I've got character! And like a fine wine, I only get better with age. So, next time someone calls me old, I'll just tell them I'm a limited edition, and they should feel lucky to be in my presence!

3) I've officially entered the age where my body makes more weird noises in the morning than my teenage sons do when they're gaming online. It's like a symphony of creaks and cracks.

4) My age has unlocked a new superpower – I can't remember where I put my car keys, but I can recall every embarrassing moment from high school like it was yesterday. Priorities, right?

5) I'm officially the 'cool dad.' Not because I'm hip, but because I'm always adjusting the thermostat to keep the house at the perfect temperature - If you’re cold, get a blanket!

6) While there was a time when my Friday night began at 10 PM - now if I’m up that late it’s because I’m about to fall asleep on the couch while binge-streaming.

7) I get excited about new kitchen appliances. I recently bought an air fryer that can do 14 different things! I don't even know why I need it to do 14 different things but it was a ridiculous deal online!

8) My fashion sense has evolved into a combination of comfort and 'I don't care.' I call it 'effortless chic,' but my boys call it 'dad style.'

9) Every day, is a game of “Where’d that bruise come from?” I don’t remember walking into a table or being hit by a car - what gives here? As for the numbness, I must have just slept funny.

10) The best thing about being a parent of teenagers is that I can embarrass them in front of their friends and they can't do a thing about it. It's payback time!"

In all honesty, while humor is always based on truth, I’ve never felt better. Age is just a number, it is your mind and spirit that determines your age. I’m truly blessed to have so many in my life who lift me up and keep me young in mind and soul. Here’s to another trip around the sun. Prost!
